Citrine

Citrine is a variant of quartz with a yellow, golden yellow, sometimes even yellow-green color. The coloring also corresponds to the name, which is derived from the word "lemon".

The origin of the coloration has still not been satisfactorily resolved. In some citrines, the color is caused by a small amount of aluminum ions in the structure - similar to the case of citrine, but the mechanism of coloration is different. For example, quartz with coatings or inclusions of iron oxides (hematite, limonite) are not considered citrine. Gem-quality citrines are very rare. You can find the best quality ones in Brazil, Spain, Madagascar or Russia. Here in the Czech Republic, it is found in western Moravia, especially in the vicinity of Bobrůvka, Rousmérov and Kněževs, as well as in Vysočín. The hardness of citrine is 7 on the Mohs scale.
