Danburite

Danburite is a mineral from the mineral class "silicates and germanates", with a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale. It was first found in Danbury (hence its name), Connecticut, USA. Danburite is little known as a gemstone, but its popularity is growing. Its crystals have excellent purity and are therefore very attractive for use in jewelry. Danburite is most often found in clear, perfectly transparent crystals, but depending on the presence of other impurities, it can be colored light pink, greenish, white, gray or yellow.

Danburite - a clear silicate with luster
Danburite is a calcium silicate with the chemical formula CaB₂(SiO₄)₂. It is one of the minerals with high clarity and a vitreous luster. It is most often found in colorless, yellowish or pink. Due to its transparency, it is sometimes classified as a gemstone.

Appearance and properties of danburite
Danburite forms prismatic crystals in a clinker system. Its hardness reaches 7 on the Mohs scale, which makes it a relatively resistant mineral. The crystals are often translucent to transparent and may resemble quartz or topaz.

Danburite deposits
Danburite was first discovered in 1839 in the city of Danbury in the US state of Connecticut, after which it got its name. Significant deposits are in Mexico, Myanmar, Russia, Japan and Madagascar.
