Cavansite is a very rare mineral, occurring in only a few places in the world. It forms glassy, translucent, acicular crystals and often settles on top of a matrix of zeolites or apophyllites. Its beautiful deep azure color is a great rarity in nature and that is why it is a very popular mineral among collectors. It was discovered only recently, in 1967, and its discovery was a great sensation.
