Ametrine – a mineral with a combination of purple and yellow colors

Ametrine – a combination of amethyst and citrine
Ametrine is a variety of quartz with a chemical composition of SiO₂, which combines two color variants in one crystal – purple amethyst and yellow citrine. The result is a unique gemstone, on the surface of which purple and yellow zones alternate in irregular and symmetrical patterns.

Origin and sources of ametrine
Ametrine is a very rare mineral, the most important and practically the only source of which is located in Bolivia, specifically in the Anahí mine. This location has been known since the 17th century and remains the main source of ametrine on world markets to this day.

History and uses
According to legend, ametrine was discovered by Spanish conquistadors, who brought it to Europe as a gift to the royal family. Thanks to its unconventional two-tone color, it has become popular not only among mineral collectors, but also in jewelry, where it is used to create distinctive designs.
