Herkimer crystal is a type of crystal that belongs to the oxide group. Its chemical composition is basic silicon oxide (SiO2), as with most other crystals.

Herkimer crystal is a highly pure rock crystal with perfect crystallization and double-sided crystal termination. The term Herkimer diamonds refers to their origin, they were discovered in the Herkimer area of New York, USA, where they are bound in rhyolite rocks. Similar double-ended crystals of rock crystal from other deposits (China, Pakistan, Morocco, Romania) are often also called herkimers, but the real ones are only from a location in the USA.
