Thulite is a translucent, crystalline or massive pink variety of manganese-bearing zoisite mineral. Manganese replaces calcium in the structure with up to two percent Mn²⁺. Thulite is often speckled with white calcite and occurs as veins and fracture fillings intersecting many types of rocks.
This interesting mineral was first discovered in 1820 at a place called Sauland Norway. He allegedly got his name from the mystical island of Thule. It is relatively rare. The most famous locality is currently located around Lexviken in Norway. It is used as a precious stone and for decorative purposes.
