Brazilianites were first discovered in 1944 in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais. It is not without interest that their finders first thought they were chrysoberyls - both of these stones are almost identical in color. Brazilianite is a 2 mineral of the phosphate group, it is named after the country of origin - Brazil, it belongs to rare gems. It is a typically yellow-green phosphate mineral that is most commonly found in phosphate-rich pegmatites. It occurs in the form of perfect crystals grouped in druses, in pegmatites, and often has a gem quality. The hardness of Brazilianite is 5.5 on the Mohs scale.
