Columbianite volcanic glass 15.2g, Colombia

Columbianite - although some sources say it is a tektite, it is not. According to various studies, columbianite is classified in the same category as obsidian - i.e. a type of volcanic glass. Its age is estimated at 30 million years. At first glance, it is black, but when the light shines through, we can see that it is colored gray-brown to gray-purple. It was named after the country where it was found - Colombia. It can be confused with the tektite Agni Manitite, for example, but columbianite has a smoother and shinier surface and is also more dense. Columbianite is a sacred stone of the Muisca Indians. The natives call it "Piedra Rayo", which we can translate as "Lightning Stone".
