Jadeite is a monoclinic mineral, the chemical formula Na (AlFe3 +) (Si2O6). According to the Strunz classification 9.DA.25 - silicates from the group of pyroxenes. The name of the mineral comes from the Spanish words piedra de ijada, which meant a kidney stone or lumbar stone for its alleged healing abilities. The Spaniards began to encounter this mineral on their way to Central America. Later, the name was shortened to jade, from which jadeite was formed. It is formed during low-temperature high-pressure metamorphism in sodium-rich serpentinite rocks, in eclogites, in jadeites, glaucophanites and occasionally in metagabras. Pseudomorphoses after jade, serpentine, are also known. The mineral is white, gray, green, gray-green in color, occasionally blue to purple. The scratch is white, the gloss is greasy to glassy, it is opaque, but it shines through at the edges.
