Larimar is blue pectolite, which is a rare mineral containing a combination of silicon, sodium, calcium and copper oxide. The blue color of Larimar is due to the presence of copper ions.

Color: Its characteristic blue to blue-green color is unique and can vary from light blue to dark blue, sometimes with white or lighter stripes.

Hardness: Larimar has a hardness of around 4.5-5 on the Mohs scale, which means it is relatively soft. This means that it is prone to scratching and should be handled with care, especially when used in jewelry.

Location of finds: Larimar is found in only one location in the world - in the Bahoruco region of the Dominican Republic.

Formation: This mineral is formed during the processes of hydrothermal alteration and metamorphosis of the original rock, usually andesite.
